Pre-Registration Options for Walkers

Please Note: Even if you Pre-Register, you must still check in at the Registration Tent on the day of the walk. This will enable us to confirm the number of walkers for each team and determine our winner for the team with the most members!

ONLINE Registration is available online prior to the walk. Just click the link below and complete the form. If making a donation online, register the full information for the person who will be receiving the tax receipt. Be sure to list the full name of the person for whom you are walking in the appropriate box (add team name in brackets if you’d like). A separate box on the same form is provided to list all other family members in the same household who will also be walking. Extended family and friends can complete the pre-registration form in the same way; one for each family unit. If you wish to make your donation online, it must be done at the time you pre-register. You will not be able to get your registration form back to add the donation. You may, however, choose to donate on site on September 25th. Just fill out the form, and click Submit. You will be given a choice to use your PayPal Account or a Credit Card.

EMAILNames of registrants can also be emailed to the registration chairperson by a team leader (parent/caregiver of the walker) as in the past. Email: pam@manitobadownsyndromesociety.com. In your email, please group participants into family units (those living under the same roof) so they can be listed together on the registration sheet. Also, be sure to indicate the full name of the person for whom you are walking. Complete the pledge form below for any donations you collect.

Pledges and Donations

Although all online donations are being processed through PayPal, you may choose to enter your credit card information rather than create a PayPal account. Just fill out the form, and click Submit. You will be given a choice to use your PayPal Account or a Credit Card.

On Site Registration

Head over to the small tent to register and submit any donations you have brought along. You are encouraged to consolidate your cash pledges and write a single cheque rather than bringing us the cash. Even if you registered online, you must still check in at the Registration Tent on the day of the walk. In the Big Tent

– Entertainment by The 2 Man Band (Luke’s new band, of Luke and Murray, our band for the past 2 years). Click the link to check out their website…we know you will love their music!

Outdoors

– Children’s Activities – games, face painting, mascots, etc.

– Food: $5.00 will get you 2 slices of pizza and a soft drink or water. We also have gluten-free pizza this year! All proceeds from the sale of pizza and drinks are donated back to MDSS!

– Cupcakes! We are going to need some nourishment after our walk, so you will find a selection of cupcakes available. Gluten free cupcakes will be available by request to those requiring them.

Route

Please note that part of the sidewalk we typically use for the route this year is under construction. We have been assured that it will likely be hard-packed gravel and passable in time for our event but we are monitoring their progress and have an alternate route planned in the event that portion of the route is not usable. If there is a change to the route, we will notify everyone here, via email and at the Walk prior to the start.

Our walk is about 3.5 km. The entire walk is on either a concrete sidewalk or an asphalt bike/walking path so it is stroller and wagon friendly. It starts at the front of the CMU North Campus building, goes south along Shaftesbury Blvd., west along Grant Avenue, north along a bike/walking path through the Assiniboine Forest, east along Roblin Blvd, then south along Shaftesbury back to CMU.


The Challenges

Challenge 1

Name your team and decide on a way to identify each of your members. Dollar stores and Thrift stores can be helpful for this. At past walks we have had teams wearing boas, t-shirts, all kinds of hats, arm bands, etc.

Challenge 2

Have the most team members on site at the walk to be acknowledged and receive a plaque noting your accomplishment! Be sure to tell your team members to go to the registration tent and sign in, even if you have collected their donation already.

Challenge 3

Be the team that submits the most pledge money by the end of the walk to be acknowledged and receive a plaque noting your accomplishment.

Is there a registration fee?

No, there is no registration fee.

 

How do I register my family and make a donation online?

This is the process for donations online:

  • The person requesting the tax receipt would complete all the information required on the registration form
  • It is important to list the “full name” of the person they are walking for, not just the team name – so the totals can be obtained for each team
  • All others in the immediate household should be listed in the box requesting this information
  • Also give the total of the number walking from that family unit

 

How do I make a donation towards a specific Team without registering for the walk?

People can donate online towards your team without registering for the walk.  They fill out the registration form online, indicate the “full name” of the person they are walking for, and answer “no” to the question of whether they are walking or not. The registration coordinator will then know it’s a donation towards your team but that they are not walking.

 

Do I need to fill out the complete registration form if I’m only making a donation and can’t make it to the walk?

Yes. When you answer “no” to the question of whether you were able to walk or not, the registration coordinator will know that it is a donation only.

 

Is there a way to view online who has signed up for our Team at the walk?

No, there isn’t.  Only the administrators of the program can access the full details. You could email the registration coordinator and ask for this information if required.

 

How do I register by email?

Simply send an email to the registration coordinator, indicating who you are walking for (not just the team name) and list all those who will be walking with you. We request that you list the names in family units, so that family members can be listed on the same registration line for quicker service at the registration tent.

Do I need to stop at the Registration Tent if I’m already registered?

Yes, in order to determine the total number of actual buddies for each Team, everyone must stop in at the Registration Tent to confirm their attendance. Only confirm numbers will be calculated to determine the winner of the “most buddies.”

 

Are dogs allowed at the walk?

We have never said no to dogs. However, we do require that all dogs be on a leash.

 

Will you have gluten free food options this year?

Yes, we have gluten-free pizza this year.
