Salary: $50,000 – $64,000 annually, commensurate with experience
About the MDSS:
The Manitoba Down Syndrome Society (MDSS) is a non-profit organization based in Winnipeg that supports Manitobans living with Down Syndrome and their families. Our mission is to foster social connections, provide resources, and create opportunities for individuals with Down Syndrome to thrive. We are currently seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization and drive its vision for improved, responsive supports for the community.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director (ED) will report directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall management of MDSS. This position requires a dynamic leader who can provide hands-on support while offering strategic direction to the organization.
The ED will be expected to work collaboratively with the Board in the following areas:
- Administration
- Communications
- Organizational Development
- Program Development (Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation)
- Volunteer Management
- Financial Management
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight in all aspects of organizational management
- Develop and implement effective strategies for program development and delivery
- Manage day-to-day administrative operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
- Develop marketing campaigns and promote MDSS events to raise awareness and engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including volunteers, partners, and community members
- Ensure financial stability and oversee budget management, fundraising, and grant writing
- Provide guidance and support to the volunteer Board of Directors, offering advice on policy, stakeholder positions, and decision-making
- Represent MDSS at events, public speaking engagements, and networking opportunities
Required Qualifications:
- A university degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the non-profit sector, with at least 3 years at a leadership level
- Exceptional communication, management, and leadership skills
- Proven experience in creating and managing marketing campaigns and promoting events
- Proficiency in Office 365 and relevant social media platforms
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Sensitive to the needs of individuals with Down Syndrome and their families, able to navigate sensitive topics with compassion and neutrality
- Positive attitude, commitment to continuous learning, and adaptability to change
- Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently with minimal supervision
- Skilled at public speaking, outreach, and networking activities
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English
- In-depth knowledge of the opportunities and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in Manitoba
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in an executive director role or managing a non-profit organization
- Experience working with a volunteer board
- Expertise in writing grants and securing funding
- Experience in social media management and advertising (Instagram, Facebook)
- Proficiency in WordPress, MailChimp, SurveyMonkey
- Lived experience supporting an individual with Down Syndrome and their family
- A long-term commitment to community through volunteering and/or work experience
Work Hours and Location:
This is a permanent, part-time position, with a maximum of 32 hours per week. The position offers flexibility, allowing the successful candidate to negotiate a schedule that meets both personal and organizational needs. The role involves a combination of in-person and remote work, with some required attendance at meetings and events during evenings and weekends.
